The real driving simulator is back in 2022, with the release of Gran Turismo 7. So the eternal question returns. Can it match real life? Well, for today’s Elevenses, we’re checking out a direct comparison.
The track: Laguna Seca. The car: Mk7 Volkswagen Golf GTI. Both are lightly modified, up to 250PS (184kW) with uprated brakes, tyres and suspension. Aside from the wavering point of view from the real video, with the driver looking left and right, the times themselves are identical, with one almost entirely faithful to the other at almost every point on the track. Is that proof that GT7 is the perfect sim? We’re not sure that’s possible. But it’s pretty cool how representative it appears to be. What I must continue to tell myself however is that speed on GT7 doesn’t make me a driving god in real life. *Sigh*.
