There are a few completely unmistakable sounds in motorsport. A screaming Ferrari V12, a howling Judd V10 and the mighty Corvette V8 are all undeniably legendary. But is there anything as iconic and instantly recognisable as a the flat-six of a racing 911?
This video is a very enjoyable visual treat, a visor-cam view of what it’s like to hustle a Porsche 911 GT3 car around Spa (at times pretty hairy) with a bunch of other GT3 cars around you. But what we really, truly love, is how brilliant it sounds.
The driver is Dirk Schouten and, apparently these were his first ever laps around Spa in a 911 GT3, and we have to say, for a first time, it’s pretty impressive. Schouten attacks Radillion with aplomb and even survives a couple of rather hairy moments between a Lamborghini Huracan and McLaren 720 GT3, which seem to decide to come very close to hitting each other in front of us not once, but twice through the lap.
But at the end of it all, just sit back and listen to that flat-six, and that racing transmission, as it sings its song in the Ardennes forest.
