It’s a dream scenario: it’s a sunny day, you have an empty Hockenheim at your disposal, and waiting in the pit lane is a Porsche 911 R and a 992-generation GT3 Touring. The only question is which is faster?
When Porsche launched the 991 GT3 Touring, essentially a wingless, ever-so-slightly more road-biased GT3, some asked whether or not it had made the more exclusive 911 R less valuable. Here was a car with similar performance, similar looks, but for nearly £40,000 less that the GT3 RS-based R. Thankfully 911 R values didn’t tank, which perhaps shouldn’t be all that surprising given that only 991 were made.
You can imagine our delight, then, when we found a video from German publication Sport Auto, a showdown between the original, the 911 R, and the young pup, the latest 992 GT3 Touring. Which comes out on top?
