Jeep launches AWD Avenger with The North Face collab

Jeep and outdoor clothing company The North Face have teamed up to create a special edition of the new Avenger 4xe hybrid. The Avenger The North Face Edition takes inspiration from a number of products from the American adventure brand as the 4xe petrol-hybrid system makes its debut.

While there are two trim levels for the new Avenger 4xe, which is clearly aimed at a more adventurous buyer than the two-wheel-drive model, the focus has clearly been on the crossover with The North Face.

According to Darren Shooter and Daniele Calonaci, the European design heads of The North Face and Jeep respectively, the idea for the limited-edition version of the Avenger came about shortly after the car’s launch in 2022. Two years of working together produced what has become the Avenger The North Face Edition, which will be limited to just 4,806 examples.

Why 4,806? Because that is the height in metres of Mont Blanc, or Monte Bianco in Italian, the highest mountain in the Alps, which sits roughly halfway between the two brands’ European design braces in Turin, Italy and Lugano, Switzerland.

Inspiration for the car has also come from The North Face’s classic mountain coat, its famous backpack and dome tent. There’s more touches that reflect Mont Blanc’s topography across the car, including on the anti-reflection strip on the bonnet, on the dash and even on the floormats.

Perhaps most interesting is the redesign of the Avenger’s seats. They have a special puffer jacket-style covering which is hydrophobic, and therefore washable and breathable for better heat regulations after a day adventuring. On the back they carry both elastic straps – as you’d see on a backpack – to increase interior storage space, and a series of hooks to hold items including the water bottle that comes with the car.

Also included with your Jeep Avenger 4xe The North Face Edition is a tent and a duffle bag, while the floormats in both driver and passenger side will be finished with a 3D rendering of part of Mont Blanc.

This is the first time we’ve seen the Avenger with its hybrid system and all-wheel-drive. Power on both the limited The North Face Edition and the Upland trim comes from a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 136PS (100kW). That is supplemented by a pair of 29PS (21kW) electric motors – one on the gearbox and one on the rear axle – for a total of 220Nm (162lb ft). The Avenger 4xe will hit 62mph in 9.5 seconds.

The body of the Avenger has also had a slight redesign for all trim levels, with changed front and rear bumpers allowing for improved approach and departure angles (22 and 35 degrees respectively). Ride height has also been raised to 210mm and Falken all-terrain tyres are now offered as an option. Working with a six-speed automatic gearbox, the Avenger 4xe also has a reducer on the rear axle, which means 1,900Nm (1,401lb ft) can be delivered to a wheel to allow for better traction on tricky surfaces.

An upgrade to The North Face version will also bring some extra yellow (sorry, Summit Gold) flashes on the outside, more Mont Blanc topography on the grille, 17-inch alloys with more Summit Gold on the inserts, and a yellow skid plate.

As standard, the Avenger 4xe is fitted with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital cluster, adaptive cruise control, hill descent control, a 180-degree rear camera, auto-dimming mirror, automatic high beam and keyless start.

The Avenger Upland will cost £30,999, with the The North Face Edition adding an extra £4k to that, for a £34,999 on the road price, or £399 a month.
