Lotus has revealed the name of its next car and indeed, when we’ll see it. On 7th September, Emeya will join the range, alongside the Evija, Emira and Eletre. Already, with just lights and shadowy images to go off, we can tell this is going to be a bit more ‘for the drivers’ than a 2.5-tonne SUV.
Very little is known officially about the car yet, though what is to be a Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S rival is described by Lotus as a ‘Fully Electric Hyper GT’.
Though its cousin Polestar is preparing the Polestar 5 to compete in a similar segment, the Lotus Emeya is said to share very little with it. We’re expecting powertrain specs very similar to those of the Eletre, with between 600PS (441kW) and 900PS (662kW) on offer.
We also expect it’ll carry over a lot of the Eletre’s design language, while carrying on the whole ‘porosity’ thing first seen on the Evija. There’s obviously twin blade DRLs up front – a bit like the Evija – and an active rear wing and width-spanning light bar at the back, which are very Eletre-esque. In all, our bet is it’ll be a stunner, certainly by comparison to the Tesla and Porsche, though it’ll have a job being prettier than Audi’s E-Tron GT.
We’re also quietly hopeful for a ‘basic’ rear-drive version with less power and more range at an ‘entry’ price point. The basic Porsche Taycan this would rival is probably one of the best in the range.
More on the Lotus Emeya as we have it, which as above, is due for a full reveal on 7th September.
