Making its UK debut at the 2021 Goodwood Revival is the Radford Lotus Type 62/2 John Player Special. It’s the fastest, most powerful Type 62/2 out of the run yet to be seen. In keeping we think with Lotus racers of old, which always seemed to go so much quicker when dressed in black and gold.

So what is the 62/2 JPS? Well, we know the 62/2 is a limited-run carbon-bodied coach build by Radford based on a Lotus platform. Where the JPS differs, beyond the colour scheme, is power.

This is a much more muscular 62/2, packing around 608PS (447kW). That bests the 507PS (373kW) of ‘Gold Leaf’ cars and the 436PS (321kW) of the standard cars, thanks to a beefier supercharger sat atop its 3.5-litre V6 engine. The JPS also gets stronger engine internals including cams, conrods and pistons.

Look closer at the outside and you’ll note an engorged splitter and diffuser for increased downforce to help stick the JPS to the road. Bigger wheels, Cup 2 tyres and carbon brakes complete the semi-supercar package.

In total there will be just 62 Type 62/2s, 12 of which will be this full-fat JPS version. Pricing is yet to be announced but production is expected to begin by the end of the year.
