SUVs are funny things. They sell by the bucketload and yet, so often, an estate car would be a more sensible purchase. You might sacrifice a higher driving position, but you often gain better fuel economy, better handling, better looks, more speed and less weight. There are some SUVs that make a strong case for themselves, though. None more so than the Stelvio Quadrifoglio.
In the absence of any Giulia estate (why, Alfa, why?) the Stelvio Quadrifoglio takes the Giulia’s delightful engine and sends power to the front wheels as well as the rear. The result, as you might be familiar with by now, is an SUV that’ll do 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds. How very tasty.
The new Stelvio, refreshed for 2021, has been treated to some updates both inside and out, but in truth, when you’ve got an engine that sounds as good as this one does it’s very hard to concentrate on a new infotainment system.
