West Virginia may be best known in pop culture for the country roads but it’s the south of the state which interests us most as it is the home of VIR. The Virginia International Raceway bills itself as ‘America’s Motorsport Resort’ and operates as a high-octane country club for much of the year but does also host a number of high-profile race series including the IMSA SportsCar Championship, GT World Challenge America and the Trans-Am Series.
The track itself has five possible combinations and the ‘Full Course’ measures 3.2 miles, offering up 17 corners for the brave and skilful. Both terms which can be applied to the driver of this C5 Corvette as it is hurled through VIR’s combination of sweeping bends and tight corners amid rolling green hills. It puts us in mind of a mini-Nordschleife and we would love a go. We might even have some fun on those country roads to get there.
