Video: Countach vs. rally Rolls-Royce ice track battle
Aside from our own Goodwood Revival, Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport and Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard flagship events, The Ice, St. Moritz, has to be one of the coolest (pun not intended) motoring events in the world. Why? Well, the concept is very simple. Old cars sliding around on an ice lake for onlookers to enjoy.
There are some spectacular cars too. Ferrari 250 GTO, Abarth, Lancia, Pagani Zonda, Lamborghini Countach, Lamborghini Miura, pre-war grand prix machinery, classic Maserati Sportscars, Jaguar XKSS. The list goes on and on but needless to say, none of this stuff is beneath a spot on the Cartier Lawn or a run up the Hill. Of course, different vehicles are driven to different degrees of aggression. Some cars you’d perhaps not expect to be thrashed are, some you wish were aren’t – Zonda S owner, we’re looking sternly and disappointedly at you. All in all, these are just fabulous scenes to see. Long may this event continue.
