They say that should never meet your heroes, but when you’re talking a classic Group C racing car, you should always make an exception. Goodwood regular Sam Hancock certainly did for this 1987 Sauber-Mercedes C9.
Hancock fell in love with Group C racing as a youngster in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s – captivated by the closed-roof prototypes racing wheel-to-wheel at speeds of up to 250mph along the Mulsanne straight at Le Mans.
He never thought that 30 years later he would have the chance to test one out himself – admittedly at a slightly shorter circuit, Donington Park, and on a very windy day… But if someone threw you the keys to a C9, you just would, wouldn’t you?
We won’t ruin his first impressions for you, but what are you waiting for?
