We’re steaming into a new era of electric motoring, which brings new challenges, new ideas, new technology and, in many cases, new names for cars. For almost 50 years, numerous hot hatches including the Volkswagen Golf have carried the GTI label, but now it seems those three famous letters are about to be replaced for the EV generation.
Step forward the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX, a more powerful version of VW’s new electric SUV. It has a bit more power, but that’s about where the differences between the standard ID.4 and the GTX. It’s still first and foremost a hefty family car.
So does this new GTX label herald that beginning of a new performance era for Volkswagen? We’re not so sure…
